Cybercriminals have Memorial Center Camp Westerbork attacked.
The management of the center has money to the criminals transferred to undo the attack.
Documents damaged
The cybercriminals put a virus on the computer system of the Memorial Centre with the result
that documents were encrypted. To open a document, there first had to be paid a sum of money.
The center has paid five hundred euros to the criminals to get open again all documents.
According to director Dirk Mulder was not about historical documents,
but mainly on correspondence and minutes of meetings.
No other option
Mulder says that there was no other option than to pay.
Various ICT consultants have looked at the problem, but no one could
decrypt documents. After payment, the Memorial Centre
received the details to remove the encryption.
Phishing-mail
The virus came in the computer right after an employee opened an e-mail with the virus.
In this phishing email was written that had to be paid a certain amount to remove the virus.
Perpetrators not yet identified.
