Floods in Southern Amsterdam after burst water pipe As a result of a burst water pipe at the Van der Boechorststraat in Amsterdam-Zuid different streets completely flooded. Parts of the nearby VU hospital flooded. According to RTL Nieuws is a precautionary measure the power is off and about four hundred patients lie in the dark. The Amsterdam-Amstelland police have announced that this is to prevent short circuits. "Patients are prepared for a possible evacuation," said a spokesman for the police. According to Het Parool all the emergency departments of the hospital are closed and twenty patients are temporarily transferred. Ambulances drive temporarily to other hospitals. The damage to the VU Medical Centre (VUmc) by the flooding amounts to tens of millions. Hospital for at least a week remains closed. |
